# Forma

> Forma is a visual editor for Discord Components V2 messages. Build, preview, and export Discord-compatible messages without manually constructing the complete JSON payload.

The editor currently displays the name FormaCord. Forma is an independent tool, not an official Discord product.

Forma is for Discord server administrators, community managers, and bot developers who want to compose message layouts visually. The editor runs in the browser without an account or an editing backend.

## Capabilities

- Arrange text, containers, sections, media galleries, thumbnails, separators, files, action rows, buttons, and dropdowns using drag and drop.
- Select blocks to edit their properties and preview the message in desktop or mobile sizes.
- Configure button links, interactive button IDs, and dropdowns. Forma designs these controls; it does not run bot interactions.
- Undo and redo edits, manage local projects, and autosave in the browser.
- Copy a validated Discord Components V2 JSON payload or download an editable project.
- Send supported messages through a Discord webhook, with referenced local attachments uploaded in the same request.

## Workflow and file formats

Compose blocks, select a block to edit its properties, check the preview, and use Copy JSON or Download Project.

- Discord JSON is an API payload, not an editable project backup. It excludes editor settings and bundled file bytes. Local attachments use attachment:// references; supply their original files with external sends.
- An editable .discordstudio.json project includes the design, preview settings, and bundled local attachments. Import this format to continue editing in Forma.
- Projects autosave in IndexedDB in the current browser. They are not published as public project URLs or synchronized between devices. Browser data can be cleared; download project backups.
- Webhook URLs remain in the current tab's memory and are excluded from saved projects and project exports.

## Functional limits

- Forma edits Discord Components V2 messages; it is not a classic embed editor or a bot hosting service.
- The editor blocks direct webhook sending for messages containing non-link buttons or dropdowns. Export JSON and use your own Discord application to handle those interactions. Link buttons open URLs and do not need an interaction handler.
- Bot name, avatar, and channel settings affect only the preview. They do not modify a real Discord bot, channel, or webhook identity.
- The preview approximates Discord. Fonts and layout may differ between Discord clients.
- JavaScript is required to use the editor. Browser storage is required for persistence. Remote images and fonts need network access; webhook delivery contacts Discord.
